How Much Does Divorce Cost in NC?
Our firm charges a flat rate for uncontested divorces where there are no other issues to resolve such as custody, property division, alimony, or child support, and there is no dispute over the date of separation. You can contact us for our current fee.
For contested matters, the cost can range widely because our fees are based on an hourly rate and every case is different. Do I Need a Separation Agreement?
The only basic requirement for a divorce in NC is that both parties be separated for one year and that the court has jurisdiction over one party. A written separation agreement or other separation papers are not necessary, but you do need to live separately.
What Is an "Uncontested Divorce?"
An uncontested divorce is when both parties agree to the divorce and have already agreed to all other issues related to the marriage before the divorce is filed. Basically, there are no disputes on custody, child support, alimony, or property.
How Long Does a Divorce Take?
Excluding the one year separation period, we can usually obtain an uncontested divorce for our clients within 45 days of retaining our legal services. Contested divorces may take longer, as they may require more filings and agreements to be agreed upon.
